In Reply to: Cart. magnets effected by CRT TV...(?) posted by larryLR on January 8, 2007 at 13:32:44:
With the TV off, you don't get the 15.7kHz inductive pickup. The problem is when you turn the TV on. Doing such causes the degaussing coils to fire (color crt tv), which demagnetize the metallic shadowmask (invar). It reduces the errors caused by the Earth's magnetic field.Don't believe me? While on, turn the TV sideways and look at the color shifts in the corners. That's why the coil is there.
I don't know if it will hurt your cartridge, but the degaussing magnetic field is huge (surrounds the crt perimeter) and will couple to anything close. Like your watch. On the other hand, it could actually be good for the cart. I don't know if the effect is good or bad, just that there is magnetic coupling taking place. Distance is your friend as the field intensity is an inverse function of the square of the distance. Or is it cubed? I forget.

PS - The Earth' magetic field also causes a rotation of the image.
