I purchased my hot rodded PF C7 without hearing it. I knew the hot rodder and we liked the same electronics so I had a comfortable baseline.I bought a Technics and a Jolida last year and I was able to sell them without economic loss. (If you are going to take a roll make sure to buy something in demand).
I purchased my Audio Research PH-3 used basically upon the reviews I read on the internet and some input from the asylum.
I am especially pleased with it. I have heard a few Cary's in my lifetime, and I think if you prefer your music on the warm, lush, and full side you will be extremely pleased. I highly recommend silver IC's for these units.
