Thanks, Krenzler, for the help. I'm reading through these pages now. Before I get through them (assuming I'll comprehend them), may I ask you a few more questions? You ask if I think I need an MM cart because of my RIAA. I don't know what that means. I said MM for a couple of reasons. One, Rega carts are all MM, and that's what I have now. Two, I e-mailed crutchfield.com, where I bought the receiver, and they told me the phono section was MM only.
Denon DRA-395 80 wpc receiver:
Input sensitivity/input impedance: 2.5 mV/47 k-ohms.
Rated output/maximum output: 150mV/7VWith these preamp numbers, what number(s) should I look for in
in cartridges? My main problem with my current Super Elys is too much surface noise. This is the reason I want a new cartridge. However, I don't want one that's dull, like a Shure I used to have.My Super Elys has an output of 6.8mV.
The Audio Technica output voltage (at 1000 Hz, 5cm/sec.) is 4.0 mV.
The Dynavector 10x5 has Output Voltage 2.5mV (at 1KHz, 5cm/sec.).
With which number in the preamp specs should I be comparing cartridge specs? And it's the output voltage spec in the cart that matters, correct?
Thanks ever so much (again) for your help.
