Hi Fellas!I recently purchased a brand new VPI Scout which I am using with a Benz Micro Glider M2 cart and Audio Research PH3 phono stage.
Very satisfied with the overall performance thus far. However, there was a faint background hum that bothered me. I traced this hum to the motor. I determined this by placing the stylus on the deadwax and turning off the motor. The hum would then dissapear...
I was ready to try lifting up the motor's AC ground when it ocurred to me: Why not use a snap-on ferrite core on the AC cable? I had an extra one in my drawer.
Well lo and behold! The hum is gone. Totally gone!
Impressive stuff. I am guessing the ferrite reduces induced EMI that somehow gets picked up by the Benz cartridge.Just passing on this easy tweak, in case you have a similar problem.
Happy holidays!

- I love it! A ferrite magnet is usually mounted close to the wall recepticle. - tubesforever 21:45:21 12/27/06 (2)

- Agree. Ferrite "beads" or cores are most effective at the equipment end of the line - HenryH 06:26:57 12/28/06 (0)
