I have had both. I am sorry to report that they suck. The 679-D7 is a conical and the 679-DE is elliptical. Both styli are bonded to a crude looking aluminum cantilever.
Both of my examples were indifferently manufactured and sounded bad on my AT13Ea cartridge body. The 679-DE was produced to be a near equivalent, able to work in the AT13Ea, 14Sa and 15Xe cartridges. It is a significant downgrade from any of the above mentioned however. Don't waste your money on junk when "the real thing" can be had for the same money.
Unless the 679 is free and going to be mounted on something that you will never have to listen to, try to buy a 202-DEM, it has a nude mounted elliptical stylus and will perform much better than the generic replacement 679-DE!
