I once went to a hi fi show and one of the rooms was using a top line shure with a jico stylus to demonstrate product , which gratified me because I had the same cartridge and stylus at home. I figured if guys in the industry, with current market knowledge and unlimited choice, were using it to sell product, I was in good shape at home, since they weren't there to just screw around.
this was when the set up was the brief darling among the reviews. Now it seems only the expensive stuff is the belle of the hi fi ball.
I was thinking that it might have been that technics never exported that cart to the US, not because people wouldn't buy it, but because people didn't need to, when the shure was such a strong product and much cheaper. probably they figured poor sales might harm their reputation with dealers.
with shure gone, and the passage of time, I recently paid around a thousand for a MM cart. I didn't want to, knowing the insane traditional profit margins of carts that are not mass marketed like shure used to be, but I wanted a good cartridge .
