I assume your table uses a conventional ball and flat turntable main bearing so the use of a plural descriptive , ball bearings, puzzles me. I assume a simple mistake.
of course, the rounder the ball, the more minimum the contact point.
Given the extreme subjectiveness of human hearing , and the practical impossibility of any kind of direct comparison , all I can say is, I am glad you are happy after changing the surfaces .
unless something was badly worn, to where it was outside of the original design specifications, I doubt if I would be able to able to hear any improvement from one type of VPI quality ball and flat arrangement to another.
here is where I use almost superhuman strength to resist talking at length about my great affection for my gyro main platter bearing. I do respect the terrific results available from a ball and flat design.
