I sat through it once. But only once. Before the movie was 5 minutes old, I knew that Goose would get killed because Maverick did something risky, and that Maverick would save Iceman's life and earn his respect before the credits rolled. Hackneyed plot, used many times before.
The only thing hip about that scene is the '55 Chevy in the background. Otherwise, like 300; just another movie beloved by macho he-man types despite--or maybe because of--the rampant homoerotica. Kelly McGillis became Amish after Top Gun, hung out with Harrison Ford for a while.
