Empire 698 built like a tank!

I was packing up my Empire 698 turntable today for our big move, and I was amazed at the massive construction for a 70s vintage table. I have never used the table, but I am still going to try someday after we move.

The suspended sub platter is very heavy with strong springs and a massive two piece platter, which I have never experienced on tables of that era. Were there any other tables in the 70s that featured such heavy duty construction?

I have never experienced the sound, so I cannot comment on that. However, I am very impressed by the build quality.

The previous owner mounted an Ortofon MC20 cartridge, but the cantilever was broken in half. If the turntable does not work out, I fortunately only paid $30 for it.
