Your instincts are correct, they can be helpful in cleaning but don 't leave them on without wiping down surfaces with rubbing alcohol or some such. They will corrode the material further/remove plating if left on.


IMHO
Best cleaner for already visually clean surfaces: Kontak. Really lift veils from sound, you won't believe how much improvement a clean can make. Will make sound too bright for a couple of days before it settles in.

Best long term contact protector/enhancer: Stabilant 22. One bottle will last a lifetime! surfaces treated with this sound great for years on end. Many vendors for this stuff.
