At this VERY early stage—only a couple of hours—I’m liking what the R1 does vis a vis the SWO-XXX. It’s not a huge difference, by any means, but there are improvements. First, the music seems to have a little more vitality and energy, and is a bit more palpable, than with the XXX, while still retaining a nice level of smoothness at all frequencies. (I personally don’t hear any thinness relative to the XXX.) In addition, the bass seems a tad more powerful. It’s also audibly more resolving. But, as I said, these aren’t mind-altering, “revolutionary†differences. They’re just an evolution of the SWO-XXX sound. Unfortunately, my main system is down at the moment, so I won’t be able to compare them with my Jena Labs outlets anytime soon, but I’m VERY curious about what that comparo will reveal. Overall, I’m pretty happy with my purchase, and it should get even better with some burn-in.
