RE: Ratio for Bypassing a coupling cap?

The ratio is a rule of thumb and not an absolute. I first bypassed 10,000 µf power supply caps in a SS power amp with 5 µf polypropylene film capacitors. The bypass cap comes out to 0.0005 of the power cap. The impetus for the mod was based on a POOGE article by Dick Marsh and Walt Jung published in Audio Amateur magazine. I, subsequently, bypassed the 5 µf cap with 1.0 µf film and 0.1 µf teflon caps.

The result was a more percussive system. That is, the leading edge of all sort of percussion sounded more life like. There just seemed to be less smearing of bass and highs. Highs seemed to have more air around them. YMMV
