Is the bottom of this unit perfectly flat and smooth? None of mine are if there is any change in the surface within the travel of these balls one or more of the balls will stop motion and cause the whole mess to slip.Also your little giggle does not show the balls in movement nor does it show the balls would be climbing the cup in the bottom of the can.
As I see it this shows virtually nothing of value with regaurds to an earthquake since more then likely in a decent quake the whole mess would end up on the floor.
I will give you points as being crafty using Pop cans for the bases. Personally I would suggest a little flat black paint to jazz them up a little.
I guess this would have to rank somewhere below using a pop can as a pot pipe useful but not ground breaking.
