If you can find a older Motorola 7805/7905 would be better than the stock reg. The LT1085 is more quiet than the stock versions and will be an improvement. Just try one and judge for yourself. If the pinout is not the same you can bend the leads to make the proper configuration, it's not that hard. If you're not sure goto the LT website and lookup the datasheet for this Reg.
