Replacement plugs typically contain steel parts and have resonant plastic shells. As long as the original cord manufacturer did a decent job of welding the plug blades to the wire, the connection will be superior to any mechanical fastener system. Molded plugs are less resonant than stiff plastic replacement units. Can you remove the entire cords and replace them with similar ones cut to length at the equipment end? It might be easier to undo the strain reliefs at the equipment than to rewire the cord ends. Saving the original cords would allow you to restore the equipment to stock if you want to sell it.
