It's likely many of you have already considered this, but some folks I know love the idea:
Simply buy a new/used cheap receiver/amp (hooked-up to nothing in or out) with a motorised volume control and remote, site it very close to your current non-remote amp, place a comfortably fitting elastic band connecting the two volume controls. When you use the remote volume it will allow the volume level to increase on both at the same time thus making your 'manual' amp remote controllable.
How simple is that?
