Mapleshade 2" vs. 4"

Curious if anyone has compare the 2" vs. the 4" maple platforms on the same equipment. I've heard that the 4" version could be too much of a good thing. Thoughts?

Also, is there enough of a difference between the performance of a high-tech board like the ones made by Sound Mechanics and wood boards like the Mapleshades to warrant the nearly $1K difference in price?
