Hi,
I have used the radio shack db meters. Both the analog and digital models. For my purpose, they work. I used them only to match relative levels of my main speakers and subwoofer at the xover frequency. RS provides a response curve for the microphone used in their meter, and it is anything but flat. Large peaks and dips in mike response above about 8khz. Sharp Low end roll off around 50 hz. For matching levels, it works fine, I wouldn't use it to EQ my system personally. I haven't seen the PE meter, but I am going to check into it myself.
