RealTraps do not have to be "sealed" into the corner, and their placement is no more critical than any other type of bass trap. The one exception would be pressure mode traps, such as wood panel membrane traps. That type of trap needs to be as close to a room boundary (wall) as possible, because that's where the pressure is greatest. But porous absorbers like RealTraps and tube traps (ASC's or the DIY equivalents) work about the same as long as they're in the general vicinity of a corner. Of course, if you pull them out 3 or 4 feet from the corner, then they'll be less efficient.
A lot of the folks I help have one reason or another that they can't straddle a corner exactly. Maybe there's a door or window only six inches from the corner, or a book shelf or whatever. In that case you can tilt the panel a bit. It may not be exactly 45 degrees, but it still works very well anyway.
