Need some thoughts from experience on PSU material

I replaced the wall wart (non-standard, RS upgrade) on my Musical Fidelity X10d. Built a simple transformer out of a quality toroid, Marinco plug, THHN braided PC, then cat5 quad twisted for the lead out to the unit, simple plug. There is a cap array between the secondaries (12VAC) and the lead out for RFI filtering.

Good sound, but not an astounding difference to note. Was wondering about additional shielding.

The box I used was a simple PVC outdoor 2 gang duplex box and cover. Was wondering if this type of PSU/transformer would be better in a metal box, and if so which type: steel, sheet aluminum, cast aluminum??

Also, have used copper braid shielding to good effect elsewhere in my system when building some PCs, attached to ground at plug end. Would this work well in this type of application for the PSU?
