theory and practice

In theory the audio purists tell you NOT to use yet another device in the signal path. In theory the only thing they can figure the X10d can do is to match impedances or something like that between components. In theory, then, the X10d should make it sound worse in most instances, should not work anywhere except between your CDP and preamp, blah blah blah.

I now have an MF X10d in my system and like its sound very much! Yes, it's only been tried between CDP and preamp so far, but it works quite well there and does NOT degrade the sound at all. This is without a good power supply nor any cap tweaks, etc., just a non-stock set of JJ tubes. And my experience is the other half of those who've tried this device, as is yours so far.

Most commonly what I read from those who are selling these tube output buffers (zero gain cathode followers)is that they really liked them in their system until they "upgraded to a tube preamp" or amp.

My system is SS, so this is my only tubed component and I like the effect. YMMV.

I don't know your equipment at all. You've liked the sound so far and the only way you'll know with the new gear is to try it out. If you don't like it, sell it. There's quite a market among those of us with lesser systems or SS gear.
