Without a schematic its difficult but if I had to make a guess its the two pairs of trannies beyond the opamps. If you remve them carefully you can listen to the effect you get little pops and clicks when you change tracks but the whole sound should have leapt forward. The reason being is that these divert the audio output to ground when you press any of the function keys. As transistor do not completly switch off they leak your precious audio signal into the ground of the cdp.
If you don't like the effect just drop them back in !
