Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
Wanted to thank everyone for help they've provided over the past few months (various forums). It ended up in me digging out the soldering irons and doing 3 tweaks last night.a) Leak Stereo 20 amp: replaced the screw speaker terminals with 5-way binding posts. Very easy.
b) Musical Fidelity P180 amp: Replaced bulging (and rattling after I pulled them out) caps with 105 deg Panasonics from digikey.
c) Built a switch box for turntable loading, using a 6way stereo rotary switch from Wellbourne labs, RCA outs, Vishay resistors (except for the 10 ohms from ratschack), connected to my phono with Kimber PBJ..Now I can select from 1, 4, 10, 45, 100 and 175 ohms! Makes life a lot easier when playing with 2 turntables and 6 MC cartridges! I should have done this 10 years ago! I was using RCA plugs connected to speaker binding posts, and inserting resistors in there, every time I changed a cartridge or TT..What a pia it was..they always kept getting loose, and all of a sudden the TT volume would jump in one channel!
I'm going to need to change the wire in this - I used some random ancient radio shack hookup wire I had. I need to change to silver wire I think.
Next, I need to built a 2 or 3 way selector for my phono-in now..Anyone have a used good input selector switch lying around?
Oh, and I did some speaker cable repair and plug reconfiguration!
Fun night. Samir.
