You still need to try the pre plugged into the MR.The amp you are describing may indeed draw more than 600 watts. Check with the mfg. You may be cutting it close with too much current demand for the MR1200.
Probably not, the filtering for digital is different than for analog and you could end up closing down the sound. But try it both ways.
