I've done it with good gear already and the difference is clear. I am just wondering how the old gear will do to. Just curious I guess. I cannot fight the curiousity. For the specified older gear, I wouldn't go beyond the $8 Volex value leader. Just to see. The only thing I have to lose is a little time and $30. What I would gain is knowing whether it is worth it.Looks like I am confusing folks talking about two different tests so I will back up a bit.
My Bryston B100 SST clearly sounds best with the power cord it came from compared to the others I tried. I hear that it can be improved with a really nice one but I like the sound so much I am not messing with it. I used the same cord for my Linn CDP with similar results. Where do we go from here? Trying esoteric power cords, etc but I have more important fish to fry at the moment considering how happy I am with my system right now.
