How risky is using untested rectifier tube?

I read a rectifier tube either works or doesn't work at all. So how risky is it to plug in an untested rectifier tube like 5U4G for tube rolling purpose assuming the tube passed visual inspection. At the worst case scenario, can it take out the power tubes or even the power transformer? Thanks.
