Most audio tubes are relatively harmless. However, certain transmitting tetrodes use a piece of beryllium oxide on the outside of the tube to conduct heat directly from the anode. This material is hazardous and a known carcinogen, and I would not dispose of it in household trash. Mercury vapor rectifiers should also be included in this category of hazardous tubes.
