Once you use current production 7868s, you pretty much have to stay with them. The reason is mechanical. NOS 7868s use NOVAR bases. Current production uses MAGNOVAL bases, with larger pins. Your sockets have been stretched.A problem area in Fisher circuits is the use of O/P tube grid leak resistors that exceed the max. value allowed. BTW, what sort of 12AX7s are installed your amp? You may be able to tweak the voicing there.
