Try Brent Jessee Recording. Brent is a good fellow and knows a lot about tubes.Be sure to get the oval grey plate with mark 188-5. Brent will confirm for you.

Also, the RCA 6BQ5 is a very good sounding and still affordable tube; a different character of sound - a little lean compared to the GE or the Mullard but very athletic and musical.
Still, the GE is king for me; I prefer it to all the European tubes. I hope you find something you like without spending so much money.
I discovered the GE a few years ago, through jimmy. I bought a 3 lifetime supply. I have far too many. If you need some extra after you decide they're for you, let me know. I also have 2 matched quads of the same GE in 7189 configuration.
