Mullard and Brimar tubes generally sound quite different from each other. This would be especially true in the input position. I have found that driver tubes don't have as much influence on a component's sound. However, knowing how differently Mullard and Brimar tubes sound, I'd personally choose not to mix the brands in any position.As mention by Mechans, it is possible that your Brimar tube was made by Mullard. Checking the code would answer the question. You can see what to look for by looking near the base of the Mullard's bottle to find the light grey date code. If the Brimar has a similar code, then it's made by Mullard. However, even Mullard tubes manufactured in different factories (Blackburn, Mitchum, or elsewhere...) sound different from one another.
