Gm and lp ??

Sorry for the newbie question. On matched tubes (at least the power tubes in front of me) two numbers are quoted: Gm and lp.
What do they stand for and what is their significance?
Apart from the numbers being matched, is there an advantage for one number to be higher or lower? Is a tube with a higher Gm less liable to distortion, putting out more power, drawing more current, grooving more to the beat.....!?
