Hi JimBop. I think you might have older Teflon HAL-Os, which sometimes don't keep a good grip on large, hot-running tubes (which is why they are no longer available in larger sizes). Nickel-alloy HAL-Os keep a much firmer grip (and they can be bent a little by hand to achieve a perfect fit, if necessary). Another option is to use the next-size smaller HAL-O; instead of placing it around the widest part of the tube, place it at the base of the "neck" where the neck meets the shoulder--it can't slide down from that position.Send an e-mail and I'll arrange a warranty replacement/upgrade to our newest UltraSonic Nickel-Alloy Damping Instruments.
BTW, there's no reason to tap on the tubes or chassis--it's how the tubes produce the music when listening that matters.
