Amperex 7062 Pinched Waist

I have some marked amperex and then some that just indicate France (FR). Are these Amperex France? They are identical except for the marking.
Why did Amperex make this tube when it made so many more that were not pinched? I prefer them sonically as an input tube in my preamp and headphone amps.
