I am the perfect candidate to get the benefit of raising the impedence of my 4 ohm Cerious Too's for use with my atma-sphere MA1's.Even after break in with a solid state amp, then time on my MA1's I am getting some strange results, and wanted to know if anyone else has heard this.
No matter what multiplier I use from 1.4 to 4x, I seem to be getting less dynamics, and generally a more lifeless sound. Midrange seems to almost be sucked out (or even similar to being out of phase) Is this what an overdamped speaker sounds like?
Now granted I am getting some of the benefits I have heard about. The speaker does seem to dissapear more, and seems a tad cleaner (slightly less distorsion) which seems appropriate. I am also getting slightly lower SPL, which is to be expected. When I was running the powered Bass units through the Zero, it definitely cleaned up the bass, but I have since started using a SS amp to feed the high level inputs of the Bass, and have gotten great results, plus the ability to remotely raise bass level for bass shy recordings.
As a test I have been running one speaker though the Zero and one straight, and putting my phono pre into mono, so I can quickly move back and forth bettween each speaker for a side by side comparison, and the non zero'd speaker sounds so much more open, dynamic, natural and right.
Perhaps my Cerious cables (both in and out of the Zero's) have something to do with it?
Any thoughts from Zero users that have ever heard similar results?
