Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I haven't yet had a chance to listen to any McIntosh amps, especially tube ones. The store that sells the speakers and Rotel gear I get just picked up McIntosh. I've read that the MC 275 amp has a legendary sound and was listed in the top 10 tube amps of all time. It lists for $3500 which is a big chunk up from the Rogue 90 amp. Here the Rogue 90 lists for $3000 Canadian, and though I don't have a Canadian price yet on the McIntosh- Id suspect its between $4000-5000 dollars here. Has anyone heard both of these amps and can say truly the McIntosh is worth the extra money? I will listen to it when I can- assuming the store will actually bring one in for a demo. They seem to thinks tubes are passe in that store. The tube amp will be running biamped to mids and tweets. Bass will be handled by a solid state amp.
