The shutdown circuit of the Quad would not damage an amp, unless the amp is poorly designed. When the protection circuit is engaged, the Quad presents a 1.5ohm to the amp. It only lasts a few seconds.Any tube amp should handle this without issue. Any good solid state amp should also have no problems with the Quad protection circuit.
