I had a 'workbench' preamp - basically a few tube sockets on a metal plate with RCA jacks and a volume control - powered by an outboard regulator. I used it to try different circuits out... well I had a setup with 6J5 cathode followers. I once grabbed a pair of 12J5s thinking they were 6J5s and plugged 'em in... well it worked and I even got undistorted music out... I noticed the lettering mistake soon enough and put in a pair of 6J5s.Will this work for you? I wouldn't do it for the reasons already mentioned....
