Re: red, orange, and blue....

You mention that both your input and output tubes have a little orange from inside the plates. This sounds like normal filament glow and probably no big deal. ANY orange on the outside of the plates would be reason for concern, but if you are simply seeing the tube glow from small openings then I think that is likely a non issue.

The blue color is not abnormal for some types of tubes and rarely a problem. However, there are two types of blue color and the characteristics you describe suggest the more benign collection of stray electrons that will often collect on the glass in search of conductivity.

As you push your amp harder and demand more current, you increase the amount of electrons that are escaping and is indicated by the increase in the blue dance on the glass. I have tubes that do this and have never given me any problems. Some tubes will have a certain amount of blue to them at any power level.

Most likely, all you have to worry about is eating up power tubes a bit faster than normal from pushing them.
