The 6FQ7/12FQ7 is a very good 9-pin miniature version of the 6SN7, with the same good linearity. Its max. plate-cathode voltage is 350v. The 12FQ7 does not have a heater center tap, so if you need a 6.3v heater you have to choose the 6FQ7.The 12AU7 is in the same league regarding amplification facor and plate impedance, but is inferior in linearity. Its max. plate-cathode voltage is 300v. Having a heater centre tap, you can shoose whether to use 6.3v or 12.6v. The reason this tube became more popular in audio designs than the 6FQ7 is probably due to its lower co$t - a pity, IMHO.
