Admittedly, I don't know for sure. However, several brands of European tubes will momentarily flash upon start up. It's not so much a red glow as it is a white flash that will startle you if you aren't expecting it. This is quite normal.The auto bias feature incorporated in Primaluna products relates to the power tubes and not the small signal tubes. I would encourage you to buy a modest tube tester if you are going to do any substantial tube rolling from other than very reliable sources. At the very least, be very attentive to your gear when rolling tubes and ditch any tube that makes any hint of a pop or a crack sent to your speakers.
It would be a real bummer to fry your gear from a short in a tube...and it's not entirely uncommon with older tubes. To be honest, most tube testers aren't very good at catching shorts, but the Sencore Mighty Mite testers are relatively inexpensive and better than most at nabbing a bad tube.
