Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

My Bottlehead Seduction phono preamp uses 6922's and both my pairs of Amperex PQ Gold Pins have gone drastically microphonic on me. I had a Nohr ACA 2B linestage that had the same problem. I tried numerous 6922's, 6DJ8's, and 7308's in it and the only brand that would work without microphonics was the Electroharmonix, which I didn't care for sonically.I finally gave up on the Nohr and sent it back but now the Seduction is giving me fits. I still have Ei Gold Elite 6DJ8's and JJ 6922's from the Nohr days but I really prefer the airy high end of the PQ's. I've switched to a linestage that uses 12SX7's and 6R7's and not had any problems with microphonics and my old Bottlehead Foreplay (12AU7's) never gave me any problems either.
So I'm led to believe it is an inherent weakness of the tube and not necessarily the circuits. Anyone else experienced these problems with 6922's?
