where to begin with tubes

I love AA.

I've been lurking for a couple years now and finally got back into vinyl.

I'm wondering about converting my small stand alone stereo system to tubes. Right now it's in a 12 x 12 room, carpeted, with lots of booksheleves. I have ADS L780/2's on 12" stands, an older HK receiver, and I use a Pioneer universal player (the upstairs system is for silver disks, downstairs is vinyl and HT)

I'm wondering where one begins? I've looked a bit online at Cayin, Onix, Jolida, proluna.......everyone says they're "the best".

I could see spending $500 - $1500 more or less, but it is just a second system, but I have that maddening itch..........ya know?
