Close enough that I've run them (rebiased of course!) temporarily in a Dynaco 70 amplifier...of course the 6L6 is really a beam tetrode while the EL34 is a pentode... check out the specs for more ins and outs. If building a regulator circuit, I would have no hesitation using the 6L6 family - most of the big regulators I have(Lambda, HP, Heath, etc) use them.
