Which of the 7 versions do you have?
In any event most have 12AX7s which I rolled in a highly modded SP6B.
The better 5751s wont cost you quite as much as good 12AX7s but are actually more expensive if you buy the true NOS 50s and early 60s Triple Mica Versions of the 5751s compared to a modern production tube like a Sovtek LPS. 5751s can fetch very high prices.
I used 5751s in my SP6B with limited impact on gain but changed the tone. The noise floor is affected to a small extent by the choice of tube.
The phono section is permantly soldered to the high gain position and trust me there was more than adaquate (ear bleeding if you wanted) volume using 5751s. I don't know if they put feedback into the SP8 from the ARCDB schematics, it looks like the 6922s are in the phono slots but I am not sure. Obviously don't roll those with the 12 volt 5751s.
The cheap ones, like the JANS give you a taste of the 5751 sound staging but do not have the full extension detail and richness of a good older Sylvania Triple Mica Black or Gray Plate, for instance. I am a collector of 5751s and have many types to to spare email on the side to discuss.
The market is at a lull for them right now on ebay try the GE "JG" or Five Star, Triple Mica Black plate they are abundant and cheaper than many others, They yield thunderous bass once you've played them for a few days,
Anyone want a Truly special SP6B-email me on the side. Rare NOS tubes can be part of the deal. I used 5751s almost all the time with it no problems.
I wouldnt hesitate unless the SP8 has poor gain which I doubt. Be careful about the non 12AX7 slots.
