Weird 7N7 tall bottle

I have a headphone amplifier that takes 6SN7 tubes. At someone's recommendation, I got an adaptor that allows me to use 7N7 tubes. That same person suggested using 7N7 tall bottles. I've since bought 3 7N7 tall bottles. Two are what I think of as a "normal" 7N7 tall bottle. The other is very different in structure. Here are the differences that I can see.

The weird tall bottle:

1. Black base exactly like 6SN7 tube. Is this plastic? Base is about 3/4" high.

2. Tube is clear. There is no gettor flashing. It's really easy to see the inside structure of the tube.

3. The plates start about 1/2 way up the glass part and go almost to the top of the tube. The edges of the plates are smooth.

The "normal" tall bottle:

1. Metal base about 1/2" high.

2. From the top down about 1/2 way of the glass there is silver gettor flashing. It totally obscures the upper half of the tube so it is impossible to see the inside structures there.

3. The plates start from just above the bottom of the glass part of the tube. I can't see how high they go but it's more than 1/2 way up the tube. They disappear under the flashing. There are tiny ridges on the edges of the plates every 1/4" or so.

Can anybody identify this weird 7N7 tall bottle? I will say that it sounds much better than the Raytheon VT231 that it replaced.

Thanks,

ken
