Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

Without touching the volume control, obviously. Yeah, I just posted an inquiry about the Orion 12ax7 tubes that I just found and Jim McShane is most likely correct that they are most likely Ei 12ax7s. In a search of the archives I've seen that while many liked the Ei 12ax7 tubes, there did seem to be some QC issues. I've had these tubes in the driver section of my Primaluna Four stereo amp for about one day and while listening it sounds like the volume suddenly gets very loud. It may stay that way or the volume may go down and get lower--no consistency. Its annoying. I assume there are some gain fluctuations going on somewhere, ie., the tube or the amp itself. Is it just a break in issue with the tube? or is it a sign that one of the tubes are bad? The tubes sound pretty good; I don't hear anything unusual other than sudden volume fluctuations. Is this normal? safe? sign of a more systemtic problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
