Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
My pre amp uses a pair of 12AU7 and a single 12AX7. The pair of U7's are Mullard and the X7 is a Tele smooth plate.Anyways, I've been doing some reading on microphonics and learned that every tube is microphonic to some degree. When I tap gently on the tubes, I can hear the "ting" through the speakers from one of the Mullard and the single Tele.
I don't hear anything at all when tapping on the chassis of the pre, or while turning the volume and selector knobs. So it seems like only tapping the tubes directly will make them "ting".
Is this considered an acceptable level of microphonics for my system? I don't think it's affecting the sound (certainly hope not!).
Thanks
