Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Hi all. My Jolida JD3000 tube amps have been blowing fuses.
Symptoms are A) popping noises on startup and subsequent blown fuses and/or B) distortion on loud passages, then blown fuses (all one amp at a time, but both amps are doing it at different times). There are two fuses on the systems; one in the incoming power cord plug socket (that is not blowing), and a second one in a small fuse holder on the back of each unit, that is blowing. I feed the amps through a PS Audio UPC200 power conditioner, then to the wall and a PS Audio Power Port. My 12AT7's test fine, but I have no way to test the EL34's nor the 211 tubes that are also in the amps, but they are new enough that they should be in good shape. I did have a power cord running to the wall, feeding the PS Audio power conditioner, from which I had removed the ground plug in an effort to solve a ground loop problem that is no longer an issue. This morning I replaced that rather expensive "no-ground" power cord with a cheap power cord to the wall in which the ground plug is now intact. I'm hoping that this will stop the fuses from blowing.Question: Could it be that the removal of that ground plug to the wall has been the source of my problem? Comments will be much appreciated.

- No clue on a tester for 211 tubes. Maybe AVO type tt or ask... - John Chleapas 00:47:58 08/29/06 (1)
