Why? And have you pretty explicitely explained to your tech what's wrong? Also, what was the $45 for? My shop's down now but I had a $35 bench fee that came into effect - as I used to say - "if I lifted a screwdriver." Of course the bench fee applied to complete repair if wished and often covered the actual repair but it was to keep folks from bringing in a junker, asking for an "estimate" and then either deciding not to proceed with repair, deciding to do the repair themselves, or taking the unit elsewhere. For a working tech the time spent on a diagnosis/estimate is the same time that could be used to complete a repair so anyone offering a "free estimate" is either giving a realy poor one or making up the money somewhere else.
Being in a rural area I my shop rates were low compared to the closest cities so $35 was a bargain at that time (about 5 years ago).
For $45 were you getting a complete repair based on an estimate or just paid the bench fee for initial work? If this was a incomplete repair based on an estimate then the guy owes you. If this was the just the bench fee then you're "dissing" someone inappropriately.Rob
