"Glowing brighter", as in the plates are red hot? Or do you mean the heater/cathode is brighter?

Using 4 ohm speakers on the 8 ohm tap could overload the tubes when listing at high volume, especially on lower sensitivity speakers, <90 dB/w/m. This would make the tube run hot and could make the plates red hot. It will not effect the bias.
